Patrick Pope, Organist

Patrick Pope has played keyboard instruments since age seven. Piano lessons in grade school led to organ lessons and an interest in church music; he played his first church service at age 14, and has spent most Sunday mornings since on the organ bench.

His academic training includes degrees from the University of South Carolina (Bachelor of Music) and the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University (Master of Music and Doctor of Music), where he had the good fortune to be guided by mentors: William Bates, Marilyn Keiser, Todd Wilson, and Christopher Young.

Thanks to music, Patrick has been able to travel to twelve foreign countries as a choral conductor or singer, organ accompanist, or organ soloist. Personal highlights include: attending Ash Wednesday Mass at Notre Dame Cathedral in 2000; accompanying services at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, in 2006; playing organ recitals at St. Paul’s Cathedral and Westminster Abbey in 2018; and conducting at the Basilica of St. Peter, Vatican City, in 2019.

Since 2011, Patrick has served as Organist and Director of Music at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter, Charlotte, North Carolina, where he lives with his wife, Robin Moeller.
